Beka + Dylan

I can’t tell you how incredibly amazing it is to watch someone fall in love in front of your eyes. I think the only thing better than watching the story of someone you know and love form is being the one to document it! You get to experience their wedding day like no other guest can, putting your little stamp on it as you go.

Let me give you a little back story. Between photography sessions I work as a restaurant server. Beka is a badass chef (yep, I said that!) and we worked at the same place for a little while. It is a unique relationship, that of a server and chef. But Beka, she is a special sort of chef. The kind of special you only come across a few times in your career. She is patient and caring. I’ve never seen her lose her cool- which is an amazing feat in a high-pressure restaurant.

Then there is Dylan, he is a resilient teacher. We all know how challenging the career of “professional educator, moulder of minds” can be. He is another strong and steady human that seems to be unshakable. I didn’t know a whole lot about him other than the little tid-bits Beka would tell us at work. But she sure did seem to like him and that’s what mattered most to me! Through the process of preparing for their wedding, I came to realize that Dylan is a mountain of a man. He has sturdy foundation and his family roots run deep. Moments into their engagement session it became crystal clear that they were made for each other.

I will never, ever forget the day that Beka and I were in the giant, walk-in cooler. She was gushing about Dylan and I looked at her & said, “…you are going to marry this guy.” She stuttered and talked around the word no for a good while- but the smile on her face told me that I was right. When I got the message that she was going to need a wedding photographer I squealed with delight!

Beka and Dylan’s much anticipated wedding took place at the Vineyard Estate at New Kent Winery. It is a gorgeous location full of great places to shoot. Two of my favorite things about this wedding are the subtle nods to the tv show Friends (one of my absolute favorite tv shows!) and their version of the unity candle. They poured sand from a beach in her hometown in upstate New York and his hometown here in Virginia into one vessel! How neat is that!?
